Obituary For Roberta A. Ebersold at Ironside Funeral Home, Inc.

Roberta A. Ebersold, 68 5402 Peterboro Rd., Oneida, NY died peacefully Friday evening, January 22, 2010, at the Oneida Healthcare Center, where she had been a patient since January 8th.

Born April 5, 1941, in Oneida, NY, the daughter of Arthur Leon and Nellie Alberta (Griffiths) Edic, she was a 1959 graduate of Vernon-Verona Central School.

She was previously married for 31 years to “Cookie” Ebersold, who died on March 1, 2008.

In her earlier years, she worked as a mother and homemaker raising her own children as well as taking care of several area children. In the early 1990’s, she went to work for Stickley Furniture in Manlius as an upholsterer until retiring from there in 2003. She later assisted her daughter Daphne with the operation of her dance studio in Canastota.

Roberta was well known throughout the area as an accomplished seamstress especially for sewing intricate work and design. Besides skilled sewing, she mostly enjoyed helping others, being a good listener and a friend to many. She also had a fond affection for animals, particularly her dogs.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Douglas D. and Tammy Ebersold, of Verona; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Daphne L. and Michael Fusillo, of Canastota, Doreen D. and Daniel Lazerek, of Ashville, NC, Renée M. Shields, of Sauquoit, and Roxanne M. and Michael Whipple, of Oneida, and a brother, Benjamin Edic, of Fura Bush, NY. She was a grandmother to Eric and Karla Whipple, Jason and Daniel Ebersold, Ryan and Benjamin Shields; a devoted Grammi to Brandon and Briety Tufte, Corrinne Pelton, Erica and Jayson Baker; an adored grandma to Megan and Brooke Ebersold, a beloved Nana to River, Rayne and Snowe Fusillo; and a great grandmother to Somara Ebersold, all of whom she is also survived by.

In addition to her former husband, Roberta was predeceased by her son Arthur R. Ebersold, who died in 1993, and two brothers, Stewart and Edward Edic.


Funeral Services will be at 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 27, 2010, at Ironside Funeral Home, Inc., with the Rev. Colleen H. Preuninger, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Oneida, officiating. Spring interment in Peterboro Cemetery, Peterboro. Friends are invited and may call from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at the funeral home, 342 Main St., Oneida. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Rome, Inc., 6247 Lamphear Rd., Rome, NY 13440.

Roaxanne and family, we are so sorry to hear about your Mom. I think back to the days of visiting my cousins house accross the street from your family and seeing you guys. And of course the Cristmas caroling....and cookies and cocoa after freezing our butts off. Please don''t hesitate to give us a call if you guys need anything at all. I''m sorry that we lost touch with you after Rob went to Syracuse Fire. Hopefully we can get together at some point for dinner or whatever. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Our deepest sympathy. Grandma was a wounderful woman and she will always be in our hearts. She was the best that they can come, always there to help others, no matter what shes doing shell put down anything to be there for anyone at anytime of day. Daphne and family - Please accept my sympathy for the loss of your Mom - Roberta. What a wonderful woman you Mom was. Your Mom was such a devoted Mom and worked so hard to take good care of her children. Later in her life she took good care of her grandkids too!! What a wonderful assest to your dance studio. She certainly could sew like no other!! Emily enjoyed your Mom when she danced at your Studio!! Just take comfort in knowing that Roberta is truly getting her rewards in Heaven!! She is now an Angel looking over her children and grandchildren. You were lucky to have been blest with a wonderful woman Roberta Ebersold you could call your MOM!! God Bless.

To Daphne and family, I didn''t realize how much I missed Roberta until I went up to the Dance Studio this year and she wasn''t there for me to talk to....we had so much fun having our little chats !! I can''t even tell you the feeling I feel inside when I''m their. I missed her this summer/fall walking by my house with the kids. She would always make mention of my flowers. I wanted to let you know I''m thinking of her and she will be missed so very much. Please take care of yourself and cherish the memories.

Daphne and family, Landen and I are so lucky that we were able to meet Roberta and have her be in our lives even if for a short time. We will remember her always and she will always hold a special place in my heart for being so good to Landen and like a "nana" to him as well. We love you all very much.
