Lorraine F. Campanie
July 14, 1948-
July 3, 2006
|
Lorraine F. (Lori) Campanie,
57 of 5898 Stockbridge
Falls Road Munnsville died peacefully at her residence on
Monday morning July 3, 2006 surrounded by her family and
friends.
She is
survived by her daughter, Summer Baidak, of Salem, Mass, and
grandchildren Julian, Bella, and Sebastian; two brothers and
their families: Albert and Marie Campanie, of Canastota and
their children Sean Campanie of Ballston Spa, Maureen
Campanie of Chittenango, and Max Campanie of Canastota; and
Gary and Ann Campanie of Oneida and their son Cody Campanie,
of Oneida; a cousin Shirley Allen of Oneida; devoted friend
and care-giver Kim Santamaria of Munnsville.
Lori
was born in Oneida, on July 14, 1948, the daughter of George
and Betty Spillane Campanie. She lived most of her life in
central New York, was a graduate of Oneida High School and
the School of the Visual Arts in New York City. After
completing her formal education she traveled the world in
pursuit of inspiration. Every job she took along the way
served only to reinforce her dedication to her greatest
passion, her art.
Lori
knew from childhood that she wanted to be an artist; even
when she strayed from that path she knew what she needed to
be doing – creating. And she did, working in every medium
she could imagine, winning awards and recognition along the
way. An accomplished painter and sculptor, she worked in
clay and ceramics, silver and copper, fabric and beads. She
taught herself tattooing, worked in local theater as
artistic director, and put her signature on the home she
built above Stockbridge Falls, where she produced the Glow
Festival, a celebration of mind and body arts.
All
that she touched was transformed by her vision, as were the
people she influenced. Lori not only taught art, she served
as muse for those in search of their artistic self. She was
true to her calling, a life that was both joyous and
painful. Her greatest gift was in helping others to find
their own voice.
She was
also fluent in Bulgarian.
Her
love of art was only surpassed by her love for her
grandchildren, to whom she was a devoted "Gambie."
She
cherished her friends as they cherished her. She will be
greatly missed.
A
celebration of Lori’s life will be held at her home on
Saturday, July 15. Friends may call from 2-6 PM, at 5898
